I'm a 63 year old Grandmother and retired science educator....and I LOVE this book. It didn't take long before I was fully immersed in the world that Mr. Sanders has created for Horace and his family/friends/mentors. At over 500 pages, it does remind me of Harry Potter in that the author takes his time in building characters and connections...everything is not obvious, nor is it quickly explained. Also, Horace is allowed to have a loving set of fairly normal parents...they do exist sometimes, you know. The story line around and the descriptions of the Box of Promises are not easy to grasp, but they encourage real thinking about the nature of time and decisions in the now affecting acts in the future. And the action is intense! My only complaint is a selfish one...the next in the series is not scheduled until Spring 2016 and although I wanted to buy my granddaughters the print version of The Keepers, the paperback of this first in the series is not scheduled for publishing until February 2016 (methinks I smell a marketing ploy, ah hah!)

The Keepers The Box and the Dragonfly Ted Sanders Iacopo Bruno 9780062275820 Books Reviews
At first you have no idea what is going on. You will go on a trip of fantasy that will keep you wondering and end with a complete surprise. Fantastic book.
Great book, amazing series, a must have for all book lovers young and old!
This was a cute book, I liked our main characters but for some reason along the way I kept losing interest. I dont know why, could have been me. But the premise of the Keepers is a fascinating and original storyline. Dr Jericho was wonderfully creepy and the magic that the Keeper's items provide were pretty cool. I'd recommend this book to the 4th - 8th grade crowd.
I bought this book to get up to speed with what the current generation is reading. Pleasantly surprised they are being challenged to imagine, to problem solve, to learn new words! Exciting enough to hold this adult readers attention to the end.
The Keepers, having introduced characters with special powers who must confront a group of powerful alien evildoers, seems to be the first volume of a projected series. For those who like the Harry Potter fantasy type, it's a good one, and the writing seems smoother and more literary than what we find in the Potter series.
The worst thing I can say about this new series by Ted Sanders is that there aren't enough books in it. Com'on Ted, I'm waiting (not patiently) for the next installment. Well written, the kids are believable, the fantasy is fantastical, these books are just plain fun. Inspired me to go back and read all of the Harry Potter books again.
This is book one of a new series, and it will probably be a hit series. These kids have exceptional powers due to some special objects that they find in a special warehouse. Somehow, you've been unaware that there is another species of intelligent life on this planet, one with some pretty cool technology, but they've sort of gone bad, to a large extent, and they don't like us much. Especially they don't like us using their technology. Except that these kids not only use it, but use it to defeat those other intelligent beings. One could think that there was more than a hint of advice on how to approach puberty in a book like this, and one would probably be right. And, what the hey, it's a fun read!
