I've never read a book that detailed the sorry lives of men that couldn't accept the natural life of what they were born to be. It was really crass. But Rachel took them to be people who at the moment wanted justice, and didn't know where to go for help. She just accepted them for who the were and pushed for that justice, in spite of all the curves they gave her. I liked that she had her head on straight, and stayed that way. But this is not a children's book. The pace is very fast.

I enjoyed this book a lot. The characters were funny at times, and serious. It was a look into transvestite hookers. The plot was great and the bad guy (woman) wasn't who I thought was the baddie. Good book.
I don't know where to begin with describing this book. Terrific sympathetic characters that include transvestites and dogs. Well researched and well written. I stayed up all night reading it . I gave it five stars because it's that good.
I chose this book because of the wire-haired dachshund on the cover (I have one). It was somewhat disappointing, though. I didn't think it was a strong story and I had difficulty developing any empathy with the characters. Someone living in the inner city might enjoy it more than I did. (The dachshund had a really minor role.)
This story takes place in the world of transvestite prostitutes with drug habits. It is very dark and not very well written. Hard to follow in places.
This is one of several books with Rachel as a private detective and her pit bull Daschiell . This plot was centered around transvestites prostitution and one of them being murdered. But there is more to the story than meets the eye. Carol always gives some dog training hints during the plot and includes the dog in the story. My main objection is the profanity. Otherwise it is a good mystery.
It was pretty good. The story was inventive and interesting. The main character wasn't completely annoying which is amazing considering the books I've read lately.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. The characters were so funny being in the line of work they were. This book held me from the first page to the last. And the more I read about Dash the more I like the 2 pit bulls that live next door to me. All I can say is I would not want Dash to be mad at me. The story line in this one of the series was really good. Now I can't wait to start the next one in the series. Folks, this old gal says if you don't read all of the series make sure you read this one.
